Prepare for first blast of cold weather

This is going to be a pretty chilly week across Middle Tennessee with the warmest days in the mid- to upper-40s near the end of the week.

We will drop into the low- to mid-20s for the next few nights. Much of the week will be partly cloudy.

The weather of the past week was quite variable as we went from a beautiful Thanksgiving with temperatures at 60 degrees or above and then had to put the S word (snow) in the forecast by Sunday night and Monday.

Siberia and some of the countries near Russia have been seeing lots of snowfall early in the season. That is usually an indicator of an increase of cold and snowy weather for the United States later in the winter.

This week’s weather question: What is the most snow to ever fall in Tennessee in 24 hours? On March 14, 1993, 30 inches of snow fell on Mount Le Conte in the Smokies.
