WEEK 10 Rutherford County High School Picks

Smyrna holds a one-game lead over La Vergne in the Region 5 race heading into Friday's road game against the Wolverines.

The Bulldogs are coming off a 38-0 road loss to Ravenwood, while La Vergne was beaten 28-21 at home by previously winless McGavock.

The lost could prove costly as La Vergne has remaining games against the Bulldogs and region leader Cane Ridge. Should La Vergne and McGavock finish tied in the league standings, the Wolverines will be out of the playoff picture. Pick: Smyrna 28, La Vergne 20.

John Overton at Stewarts Creek: The No. 2 seed in the TSSAA playoffs could be at stake this week for Stewarts Creek. Although Stewarts Creek can't clinch it, a loss would certainly be untimely and likely costly for the Red Hawks. No worries, however. Pick: Stewarts Creek 42, Overton 16.

Oakland at Coffee County: The Patriots are striving for perfection this season and shouldn't get much of a test against the Red Raiders. Pick: Oakland 59, Coffee County 6.

Warren County at Riverdale: Warren County is still in the hunt for a playoff spot, but won't get any help this week from the Warriors, who will likely be the third seed in the playoffs. Pick: Riverdale 47, Warren County 14.

Rockvale at Cookeville: The Rockets are still seeking their first win of the season, while Cookeville looks to be in good position to earn a No. 4 seed in the playoffs. Pick: Cookeville 42, Rockvale 13.

Siegel at Blackman: Siegel has played much better the last two games, only to come up empty and remain winless on the season. Blackman still controls its own destiny as far as earning the No. 2 seed in the playoffs, so don't expect the Blaze to look past the Stars. Pick: Blackman 48, Siegel 21.

Eagleville at Mt. Pleasant: The Eagles won a hugh playoff implication game last week against Summertown, and will play their final non-regioin game this week. While this week's game doesn't have any effect on their playoff seedings, the Eagles want to continue to ride their momentum. Pick: Eagleville 21, Mt. Pleasant 20.

Mt. Juliet Christian at MTCS: This should be an even matchup for the Cougars, who earned their second region win of the season last week at Franklin Grace. Pick: MTCS 35, Mt. Juliet Christian 33.

Last week: 7-1. Season record: 52-18.
