Week 9 Rutherford County high school football picks

Eight of the 10 Rutherford County football teams were off last week during Fall Break.

Three week's now remain in the regular season, so the push to make the playoffs will be every team's focus beginning Friday night.

There are several high-stakes games as at least five teams have a chance win their respective region title.

Here are the Week 9 picks:

Oakland at Riverdale: "It's the Battle of the 'Boro," so enough said. Oakland is 7-0 overall and 4-0 in region play, while Riverdale is 6-1 and 4-0. The host Warriors will nevertheless be facing a daunting task of not only trying to stop Oakland's explosive offense, but establishing an offense that can score points. Pick: Oakland 31, Riverdale 14.

Rockvale at Blackman: It's a must-win situation for Blackman -- plain and simple -- as a loss will likely knock the Blaze out of the playoff picture. Rockvale is more than a formidable opponent but is still searching for its first region victory. Pick: Blackman 31, Rockvale 20.

Siegel at Cookeville: The Stars have improved greatly the past couple of weeks and should match up well against Cookeville. However, the Cavaliers are still fighting for a playoff spot. Pick: Cookeville 23, Siegel 14.

La Vergne at McGavock: The Wolverines can wrap up a playoff spot with a road win this week, and look for the Wolverines to accomplish that goal. Pick: La Vergne 38, McGavock 18.

Eagleville at Summertown: Eagleville also is in playoff mode in that it needs to close out the season with three victories. Pick: Eagleville 18, Summertown 16.

Grace Christian-Franklin: If you like offense, go see this one. Both teams are very potent on that side of the ball, which should make for a shootout. Pick: MTCS 40, Grave Christian 36.

Ravenwood at Smyrna: The Bulldogs step outside region play this week against one of the teams favored to make the BlueCross Bowl. Pick: Ravenwood 34, Smyrna 20.

Lebanon at Stewarts Creek: This should be a great matchup between two non-region opponents fighting to make the postseason. Lebanon is the Region 4 top-scoring team, while Stewarts Creek ranks second in Region 5. Pick: Lebanon 30, Stewarts Creek 28.

Last Week: 2-0. Season: 43-11
