Week 6 Rutherford County High school football picks

We're halfway through the regular season, but nothing has been decided in region races involving Rutherford County teams.

There have been some surprises along the way, and more could follow in the upcoming weeks.

Here at the Week 6 picks:

Riverdale at Blackman: It's "Backyard Brawl" week for both teams as one of the city's best rivalries will take place at The Inferno. Riverdale is 4-1 overall and already has two region wins, while Blackman is struggling mightily at 1-4 and 1-1. It's a type of game in which you can throw out the records, but Riverdale has clearly been the better team to date. Pick: Riverdale 34, Blackman 17.

Rockvale at Oakland: Rockvale has made great strides this season, but the Rockets are facing the beast of the region this week. Oakland is undefeated and has outscored its opponents 169-48. Pick: Oakland 44, Rockvale 7.

Station Camp at Stewarts Creek: The Red Hawks are coming off a disappointing region loss to La Vergne in a back-and-forth game. Station Camp has struggled this season, so Stewarts Creek should have a big bounce back week. Pick: Stewarts Creek 35, Station Camp 14.

Antioch at Smyrna: The Bulldogs already have one region victory on the season and shouldn't have any issues with Antioch, which will be playing its first game of the season. Pick: Smyrna 42, Antioch 6.

Warren Co. at Siegel: Warren County is 5-0 overall, 2-0 in the region and coming off a xxx victory at Blackman last week. Siegel is 0-5 and 0-2. I doubt anyone really expected Warren County to be a factor in the region race, but someone forgot to tell the Pioneers. Pick: Warren County 35, Siegel 17.

Cornersville at MTCS: This should be an interesting matchup as Cornersville has been one of the top Class A teams in the state the past five years. Although it’s a non-region game for the Cougars, a victory would be a huge confidence booster as it gets back into region play for the final four weeks of the regular season. Pick: Cornersville 28, MTCS 23.

Moore Co. at Eagleville: This is a tough non-region matchup for Eagleville, which has faced stiff competition out of its league. Moore County is a talented Class A team, much like the final region opponents the Eagles will face. Pick: Moore County 28, Eagleville 19.

Last week: 5-3. Season: 29-11.
