Week 6 Rutherford County high school football picks

Two of the top teams in the state had an open date this week, which made it all too easy for Lipscomb Academy and Oakland to face off at Oakland on Thursday night.

Lipscomb, coached by former NFL quarterback Trent Dilfer, is averaging over 60 points a game and Oakland is riding an 18-game winning streak.

Beacon Hill, Va., backed of its game at Oakland last week, so this will be the Patriots home opener. It will not only attract both schools' fans, but football fans across the midstate as well. Pick: Oakland 45, Lipscomb Academy 30.

Warren Co. at Siegel: The Stars are looking to bounce back after last week's road loss to Oakland. Warren County is 2-1 this season. Pick: Warren County 28, Siegel 21.

Riverdale at Smyrna: This one features a matchup of undefeated teams and should be one of the top games in the midstate on Friday night. Pick: Riverdale 21, Smyrna 14.

Antioch at Blackman: The Blaze have faced a most difficult non-region schedule, but this one doesn't fall under that category. Pick: Blackman 50, Antioch 6.

La Vergne at Stewarts Creek: La Vergne is still looking for its first win on the field this season, but it's unlikely the Wolverines will earn this week. Pick: Stewarts Creek 35, La Vergne 20.

Nolensville at Rockvale: The Rockets are coming off their first loss of the season to Riverdale. This should be a close and entertaining game. Pick: Nolensville 28, Rockvale 20.

Cornersville at Eagleville: The Eagles face a tall task against one of the top Class A programs in the state. The task also is much tougher with senior quarterback/defensive back Marcus Collins out with an injury. Pick: Cornersville 28, Eagleville 13.

Lakeway Christian at MTCS: The Cougars finally open region play on Friday after playing a very difficult non-region schedule. The tough competition could play off this week. Pick: MTCS 35, Lakeway Christian 31.

Last week: 5-1. Season: 26-5
