ANTIOCH – Many local hockey players from across the mid-state competed in the Elite Edge hockey showcase this week at Ford Ice Center in Antioch.

The showcase serves as a platform for players to get next-level coaching, while also allowing coaches and scouts from colleges and junior leagues to have some face time with players. The showcase includes ice sessions, off-ice training, seminars and games.

“The players push us to get better every year,” Elite Edge program director and Nashville Predators manager of hockey operations Brandon Walker told Penalty Box Radio. “The level of play continues to increase and we find better and better players wanting to come here and being groomed in this area.

“This pushes us to be better and evolve, that’s a word we’ve used a lot this week to evolve and become better and better in providing a service for the players to give them the tools to move forward as best as possible.”

Several colleges were represented at the 2019 showcase including: Notre Dame, Brown University, University of Anchorage-Alaska, Michigan Tech, University of Alabama-Huntsville, UMASS, Bethel University and UMASS-Boston.

“It’s just amazing to see from year 1 to now the talent that’s come through this showcase,” Brown University assistant coach Jason Guerriero said. “The talent and the number of players has grown every year, and the number of coaches that keep coming back. So, it’s really taken off.”

Team Gold beat Team White in overtime on Thursday to win the Future Prospects championship, while Team Blue downed Team Black to win the Junior Division championship.
