Stewarts Creek running Gabe Walker scored from seven yards out in the second overtime Friday night for a thrilling 35-28 non-region victory at Wilson Central.

Wilson Central forced the overtime with 17 seconds remaining in the game when Hayden Smith scored on a 1-yard run.

The Wildcats scored first in overtime on Robbie Spickard’s 10-yard run that made it 28-21 after Esteban Hurtado’s PAT.

Walker, however, answered again on a 4-yard run, and after the PAT, it was tied at 28-28.

Walker, who had four touchdown runs, scored from seven yards out for the game-winner that improved the Red Hawks to 5-2.

“It was kind of wild,” Stewarts Creek coach Ben Caudill said. “I had a bunch of players asking what the overtime rules were. I guess I should have covered it, but it was a great night.

“It’s tough on the road, and I was really, really proud of how persevered through some things. I was really proud of how our defense made a big play there late.”

The senior finished the night with 174 and averaged almost eight yards a carry. Pickard led the Wildcats with 77 yards, and Blake Hobbs gained 55.
