LEBANON - Defending state champ and No. 1-ranked Oakland started fast and never slowed down in 45-20 win over Lebanon in the Class 6A quarterfinals Friday at Clifton Tribble Field/Danny Watkins Stadium.

Georgia-bound senior tailback Jordan James rushed 10 times for 122 yards scored twice while his running mate Antonio Patterson accounted for 135 yards on 10 touches and two touchdowns.

Miami commitment Isaiah Horton produced a pair of touchdowns with a long kick return and a pass reception.

“Getting momentum early against a team with a lot of momentum was huge,” Oakland coach Kevin Creasy said. “You know Lebanon had a lot of momentum. They had just taken care of two straight Rutherford County teams.”

The victory sends the 13-0 Patriots on to the semifinals next Friday at 13-0 Maryville -- a 28-21 winner over Farragut in the other quarterfinal game.

The Rebels are making their 22nd straight appearance in the semifinals.

OHS wasted little time getting things started as Horton fielded Lebanon's opening sky kick near the boundary at his own 26, then worked his way across the field and into the end zone some 74 yards away.

With a booming PAT by Avery Rogers, the Patriots were well on their way to a 28th consecutive win.

After forcing a Lebanon punt, OHS reeled off a 7-play, 51-yard drive that ended with a 1-yard plunge by James with 1:50 left in the first period.

Early in the second quarter, Oakland quickly moved the margin to 21-0 as James scored from 28 yards out to end a 2-play, 54-yard drive.

The Blue Devils (11-2) managed a score before intermission as quarterback Jaylen Abston engineered a 13-play, 77-yard drive that ended with a 43-yard touchdown pass to Kemontez Logue with a little over six minutes to play in the half.

Oakland scored on each of its first three possessions of the second half as Patterson slipped out of the backfield to haul in a 59-yard TD pass from Kade Hewitt; Hewitt connected with Horton with a perfectly thrown ball in the back of the end zone and Patterson ended a 64-yard drive with a 3-yard plunge to briefly invoke the at 42-7 with 5:48 remaining in the third quarter.

Lebanon answered with back-to-back scores with a drive of 74 yards that ended with Abston finding Anthony Crowell down the sideline for a 24-yard touchdown pass; followed by 24-yard pass from Abston to Nolan Sandefur with 8:33 left to play.

Rogers closed out the scoring with a 26-yard field goal with 5:42 left on the clock.

As a team, Oakland piled up 396 yards in total offense and 15 first downs. The patriots only punted once.

OHS ran for 261 yards on 34 carries and Hewitt completed 6-of-11 pass attempts for 135 yards and two touchdowns.

Horton caught three passes for 56 yards and a touchdown while Patterson had two receptions for 54 and a TD. He also ran eight times for 81 yards and a touchdown.

Lebanon finished with 342 yards and 12 first downs.

Abston completed 16-of-28 pass attempts for 237 yards and three touchdowns.

The Blue Devils managed 105 yards on 29 carries led by senior tailback Devin Greene with 72 yards on 13 attempts.

Crowell caught 10 passes for 125 yards and a TD while Logue had two receptions for 53 and a touchdowns.

"We started this journey back in November of last year," said LHS coach Chuck Gentry. "We wanted to get better and there's been some hard days and some rough times. I'm so proud of this team, they've done everything we've asked of them. Every challenge, they've answered the bell.

"This isn't the way we wanted to go out, but we showed some character there in the second half."

NOTABLE - Hewitt has now thrown for 1,309 yards and 15 touchdowns with only two interceptions.

James has now scored 22 touchdowns while Patterson is within shouting distance of 1,000 yards rushing with 813.

A junior, Lebanon's Abston has now thrown 33 career touchdown passes while Crowell ended his junior season with 1,093 yards receiving and some 2,106 all-purpose yards.

The loss to Oakland snapped Lebanon's 10-game winning streak.
