Middle Tennessee Christian School saw its season end one game short of the BlueCross Bowl as Nashville Christian defeated the Cougars 28-7 at Throneberry Stadium Friday night.

MTCS ends its season at 8-4 while Nashville Christian will head to the Blue Cross Bowl 11-2.

The Eagles opened the game with a 12-play, 57-yard drive capped by a 4-yard run by Josh Strickland.

The Cougars tied the game in the second quarter on a 6-yard run by Gabe Howell. The scoring drive was set up by an interception from Howell at their own 29-yard line.

MTCS ran seven plays, driving 71 yards as the key play was a fourth-down conversion on a pass from Aden Hooper to Eli Wilson of 28 yards. Wilson four catches for 73 yards.

On the ensuing kickoff, James Warmbrod received the ball and raced 70 yards to the end zone, giving the Eagles a 14-7 lead at the break.

“You cannot give up a special team’s touchdown and get stalled out three times at the plus-30 and expect to win.” Cougars head coach Kolby Tackett said.

Nashville Christian scored twice more as Tyler Morris ran the ball in from the three, and then in the final stanza, a 36-yard pass to Jaelyn Marsh closed out the scoring. An interception by Marsh in the end zone, along with a pick from Donovan Smith, sealed the win for Nashville Christian.

“I had a good feeling, but I knew we still had to close the game out,” Nashville Christian coach Jeff Brothers said. “They are a quality football team, but I am proud of our kids and our community.”

“I am at a loss for words right now. It is so breathtaking.” Nashville Christian quarterback Tyler Morris added.
