Riverdale's Acacia Hayes sank two free throws with three seconds remaining as the Lady Warriors hung on for a 49-47 win over Providence Christian Academy in the State Farm Classic Monday at Riverdale.
"We played better in the second quarter," Hayes said. "I just tried to knock them down, and (Garen) Haney was big for us tonight."
The first quarter was low scoring as both teams felt each other out and started out cold. Both teams played variations of zone defenses.
"They are a good team. (PCA) coach (Tara) James does an outstanding job and I am glad we were able to play this game." Riverdale coach Amy Josephson said.
PCA had its biggest lead in the first half at five points. Riverdale's biggest lead was six on two occasions -- the final time being the 25-19 halftime score.
Riverdale went up by as much as seven in the second half before the Lions went on a 9-2 run to cut the deficit to two at 30-28.
The final eight minutes was back and forth as each team battled for the lead.
PCA's Mariah Edmonds, a Kentucky Wesleyan signee, led all scorers with 25 points. Abby McFarland added 10.
Riverdale was led by Hayes with 19, while Haney added 17 points.
"When they are playing well together we are better," Josephson said. "We have not played in 15 days."

Riverdale 61, Cannon Co. 58 (OT)
The Riverdale boys battled Cannon County for 61-58 overtime win in the State Farm Classic. The game was close throughout and was tied at 26-26 at halftime.
At the end of three periods it was 37-35 Cannon County, and at the end of regulation, it was tied at 53. Riverdale made key free throws late to move to 7-2 on the season.
