Former Siegel coach Dotson resting comfortably after surgery

Former Siegel High School boys basketball coach Ben Dotson underwent head surgery Monday (June 29) following after a car accident on Interstate 840 on July 19 at 10:30 a.m.

Doston suffered a skull fracture and was Life Flighted to Vanderbilt hospital.

Dotson's brother, Von, said Tuesday surgery went well, he was resting comfortably and his vital signs were good.

"I think the road to full recovery is in the cards," Von Dotson said. "He's doing well, his temperature was 98.3. Basically what comes next is he's going to start doing some physical therapy tomorrow. It's amazing, 11 days ago I wasn't sure he was going to make it."

Ben Dotson was originally scheduled to undergo surgery prior to June 29 but developed a fever, forcing the surgery to be put on hold.

Dotson resigned his post in 2016 to spend more time with his family. He won three district tournament championships and four region championships. His teams made four TSSAA state tournaments and finished in the top four twice during his eight years at the helm.
