Eagleville’s softball team defeated its district rival Huntland 4-3 on Friday in a winners’ bracket game to advance to Saturday’s Class A championship game at StarPlex at 2 p.m.
The Lady Eagles will play either Huntland or Jo Byrns, and they will have to be defeated twice.
“We just have to remain focused and not let the moment get to us,” Eagleville second baseman Brinli Bain said. “We were at this point last season, and as soon as we lost we talked about making it to this point.”
The first three innings were scoreless as Eagleville’s Addisyn Linton matched Ashtyn Danley pitch for pitch.
Danley retired the first nine she faced until Brinli Bain laced a single to begin the fourth inning. Linton singled and Bella Bain hit a ball to Huntland shortstop Hadley Gardner, who threw to first. However, Deanna Burton dropped the ball, allowing Linton and Brinli Bain to score the first two runs of the game.
In the sixth, here came the Hornets. Bailey Morris and Danley singled, and Mattie Danley was intentionally walked to load the bases.
Ryley Brannon worked the count to 1-2 before fouling off several pitches She then got one she liked and hit it to the gap that rolled to the fence and cleared the bases to score Morris, Ashtyn Danley and Mattie Danley for a 3-2.
Eagleville had one more comeback left as Brinli Bain walked, advanced to second on a sacrifice by Sarah Thompson. Linton then doubled, scoring Brinli Bain from second to tie the game.
Later in the inning, Bella Bain singled to score Linton to stake the Lady Eagles to a 4-3 advantage.
Linton then settled down and got comebackers from Deanna Burton and Dara Jernigan, and a ball to Emmaline Whitt off the bat of Blair Finchum.
