Middle Tennessee women's basketball held Charlotte to its lowest point total of the season and a 26 percent shooting from the field in a 65-41 road defensive clash Thursday night.
The Lady Raiders (15-2, 8-0) turned in a season-low 65 points but held the 49ers (7-10, 3-5) to four points in the first quarter and seven in the fourth.
Middle Tennessee is off to an 8-0 start in conference play for the first time as a member of Conference USA, and its 13-game winning streak is the longest by a Lady Raider team since winning 17 in a row from Nov. 29, 2013 to Feb. 5, 2014.
Kseniya Malashka, who picked up where she left off against UAB, scored eight of Middle Tennessee's 11 unanswered points to close out the first quarter.
Charlotte didn't score a basket in the final 5:21 of the opening frame. The 49ers found answers offensively in the second quarter, cutting the Lady Raider lead to four heading into the locker room.
Charlotte stayed within reach until a 10-2 MTSU run to close out the third quarter stretched the lead to 47-34 heading into the fourth.
Jalynn Gregory scored the first five points of the final quarter as part of a 9-0 run to help the Lady Raiders break away. Middle Tennessee held at least an 18 point lead the rest of the way, with its largest coming at 1:09 on Courtney Blakely's three to make it 65-39.
Malashka impacted both ends of the floor, scoring 18 points on an 8-for-16 shooting performance while recording five blocks and two steals. The redshirt-senior forward also grabbed eight rebounds. Gregory finished with 15 points and five rebounds.
Savannah Wheeler rounded out the double figure scorers with 10 points, five rebounds and four assists. Courtney Whitson was all over the floor, adding nine points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Middle Tennessee's third and final game of the week takes place Saturday vs. Louisiana Tech at Murphy Center. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m.
