MTSU loses big money game with UConn shutting down

MTSU's biggest football pay day of the season won't happen in 2020 after the University of Connecticut announced Wednesday it is shutting down its program for the season due to the COVID-19 virus.

The Blue Raiders were scheduled to play at UConn on Nov. 21, but have now lost all three non-conference FBS games with the Huskies becoming the first FBS team to announce its season has been canceled.

MTSU was to get paid $1.5 million for its visit to Stoors, Conncticut.

The Blue Raiders also were scheduled to play their season opener at ACC opponent Duke on Sept. 5 and host ACC foe Virginia Tech on Sept. 19. However, the league recently announced it will play a conference schedule only.

MTSU's only other non-conference game is scheduled for Sept. 12 against FCS opponents Indiana State.
