Central Magnet soccer whips Montgomery Central 9-0





Central Magnet’s soccer team rolled over the Indians of Montgomery Central 9-0 in a mercy rule game in the region tournament Tuesday.

McKayla Nolan had a goal and an assist as Central built a 6-0 halftime lead.

“We moved the ball around and the natural grass surface was fine,” Central Magnet soccer coach Ray Bennett said. “We have Page next and then a sectional game but we are taking things one game at a time.”

Rose Drowota, Harper Guthrie, Brooke Hamilton, Jillian Londre, Julie Ann Hamilton, Maria Kime, Reilly Gusman, Addison Savley each scored a goal in the match. Jessie Dreiling assisted the final goal by Guthrie a laser that ended the match with five minutes remaining.

Central Magnet advanced to meet Page in the regional final on Thursday at the Siegel Soccer Complex at the Stadium Field at 6 p.m.

Patriots, Stars to meet for region title

Oakland and Siegel will meet again this season, this time for the region title as both won their region semifinal games.

Siegel went to Mt. Juliet and won 1-0. Oakland took out Cookeville as the Leah Krugh had a pair of goals, and the veteran Madeline Myers had two assists and a goal.

“Those two are special, they have so much chemistry for a freshman and a senior. We are going to play for another trophy and try to bring it home,” Oakland coach Jeff Porter said. Both teams will play sectional games on Saturday.

PCA closes out good season

Providence Christian Academy closed out its season in Memphis, dropping a 7-1 decision to the St. George’s Gryphons. PCA finishes its best season ever in the final 12 of the state and 11-6 under coach Tyler Clem.
