Brent Stockstill returns to MTSU as receivers coach

Former MTSU quarterback Brent Stockstill has been named the new Blue Raiders wide receivers coach as announced by head coach Rick Stockstill Saturday.

"I am extremely excited to announce the hiring of Brent," said Rick Stockstill. "Everyone knows about his outstanding career as a player for the Blue Raiders. He has been exposed to two great offensive coaches in Lane Kiffin and Jeff Scott the past two years that will be very beneficial to our program and players.

"He will have an impact in recruiting for us as most of the area high school coaches remember him as a player both in high school and here at Middle Tennessee. His passion, enthusiasm and leadership will have a positive effect on our players. I can't wait for him and his family to get here and get started."

The younger Stockstill spent the last two seasons in Florida, working first for Conference USA foe Florida Atlantic as an offensive player personnel assistant and this year at South Florida as an offensive quality control analyst.

As quarterback for MTSU, he led the Raiders to four straight bowl games and finished his career as the program's all-time leader in passing yards (12,495), touchdown passes (106), 300-yard passing games (19), 400-yard passing games (three), passing yards per game (277.7), completions (1,055) and attempts (1,610). He still ranks 28th all-time in the NCAA in passing yards and ended his career ranked in the top 10 all-time in C-USA history in touchdown passes, completions, attempts, passing yards, completion percentage and 300-yard passing games.

"I am very excited for the opportunity to come back and be a part of this program and staff," Brent Stockstill said. "I've been extremely blessed these past two seasons to have been around great coaches and players. I want to thank Coach Kiffin and Coach Scott for giving me the opportunity to be a part of their respective staffs and all that I have learned from them. I also want to thank Coach Charlie Weis Jr. for all he has done for me and the chance to work alongside him for two seasons.

"I can't wait to get around our players and I am fired up to go to work with them every single day. This program holds a special place in my heart and I can't wait to get started."

Head coaches that Brent Stockstill worked under had the following comments:

"Coach Brent Stockstill is a very bright and intelligent coach. His football knowledge is off the charts," South Florida coach Jeff Scott said. "He is a great teacher, motivator and communicator. I couldn't be happier for him. He has a very bright future as a college football coach."

“Brent is a bright football mind, and I'm excited to see him get this opportunity,” Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffiin said. " Like myself, he brings the perspective of a coach's son, which will serve him well as he takes this step in his career. He also understands the toughness that is necessary to compete at a high level. I wish him the best."
