All-Rutherford County soccer team announced

Reaching the Class AAA state sectional for the first time since 2013, the Smyrna Bulldogs had quite the 2019 season.

Capping the year off, Smyrna led the Murfreesboro Post All-Rutherford County soccer team with Player of the Year Kevin Avalos, Coach of the Year Brian Grogan and two first-team selections. Avalos is the second consecutive Bulldog to win Player of the Year after Juan Cernas won the award last year.

Central Magnet’s Russell Harper was named the Goalkeeper of the Year, posting 11 shutouts with a 0.64 goals-against average.

Player of the Year: Kevin Avalos, Smyrna

2019 stats: 18 goals, eight assists, District 9-AAA Offensive MVP, THSSCA All-State selection

Goalkeeper of the Year: Russell Harper, Central Magnet

2019 stats: 11 shutouts, nine wins, posted a 0.64 goals-against average, District 11-AA Goalkeeper of the Year, THSSCA All-State selection

Coach of the Year: Brian Grogan, Smyrna

Led the Bulldogs to a 12-6-2 record, a District 9-AAA championship win over Mt. Juliet, a Region 5-AAA tournament win over Hendersonville and appearances in the Region 5-AAA championship and Class AAA state sectional

2019 stats: Led Smyrna defense that had five clean sheets and allowed 1.5 goals against per game

- Riley Clothier, Oakland

2019 stats: Anchored an Oakland defense that allowed 1.3 goals against per game and reached the state tournament, District 7-AAA Freshman of the Year, THSSCA All-State selection
