Voices of Faith

“Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, And He saved them out of their trouble, And He saved them out of their distresses. He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, And broke their chains in pieces.” Psalms 107:13-14

In a few weeks, Higher Ground Worship Center will host our Breaking the Chains Revival. Some people may say, “I do not carry any chains.” Here are just a couple of questions to help you self-diagnose to see if you are carrying chains.

Do you live each day with joy? “But Pastor Crismon, have you paid attention to the natural disasters that have wrecked major cities and towns in Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico? What about the atrocities that man caused in the Antioch and Las Vegas shootings? Are you aware of the increased racial animosity that groups like White Lives Matter and Antifa are working to provoke?”

My answer is “Yes.” These occurrences represent the signs of the times that Jesus spoke of over a thousand years ago as recorded in Matthew 24. Yet, we are not to allow the circumstances of life to rob us of the joy that Christ gives. If we do, we unwittingly pick up the chains of doubt and discouragement that our enemy, Satan, uses to hinder our effectiveness. This happens when we take our eyes off Jesus Christ. Jesus said in John 15:11, “These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.”

Do issues from your past still haunt you? It may be shame from a painful divorce, a child born out of wedlock, failing an exam or unkind words you spoke to a friend. The Enemy does not fight fair. Jesus said in I Peter 5:8, “your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.”

To devour something you must first hold it captive. Issues from the past are chains Satan utilizes to hold us captive. However, the Bible declares in II Corinthians 3:17, “Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.” If either of the aforementioned chains, or other chains are binding you, you need the power of God to set you free!

Are you ready for God to break your chains?
