John 10:10 (NLT) “The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy.”

Sometimes it might seem like white noise to decry the impact of pornography in our society. Many people may think “If people would just exercise a little more self-control, pornography would not be a problem.” Or worse yet, some people may feel “pornography is not really a big deal.”

Well, according to a report by Webroot Cybersecurity $3,075.64 is spent on pornography every second on the internet. Every. single. second. For those keeping score at home that means around the world $184,538.40 is spent on pornography every minute.

It gets worse. $11,072,304 is spent on pornography every hour. Finally, Earth has the dubious distinction that its residents spend $265,735,296 on pornography every single day. If you multiply this by 365, we see a yearly tab of $96,993,383,040! This total represents more than the 2018 worldwide net incomes of Apple, Exxon MobilCorp and Amazon combined.

I know some might say “It’s not my problem.” If you own a business, it might be. According to the Webroot Cybersecurity report, because of pornography viewing, in the U.S. alone business productivity is impacted to the tune of $16.9 billion -- annually.

Some may say “these are just numbers.” Not quite. Satan’s most strategic work involves what he is doing among our children.

In a 2016, study by the Barna Group (Josh McDowell Ministry, “The Porn Phenomenon: The Impact of Pornography in the Digital Age”), among teens ages 13-17, 57 percent sought out pornography at least monthly. This is greater than 1 out of every 2 teenagers interviewed. This statistic alone is frightening.

Lust may not be in your home -- or even your neighbor’s home. That is definitely a testimony to the protection of God. Yet, make no mistake about it, lust is a serious problem in our world. Believers worst move is to think that indifference will make this evil go away.

We have to understand that Satan is not satisfied to use his demonic influence to get the world’s money. He is after something of infinitely more value — our souls.
