Now is the time when many homes will be adorned with holiday plants including cactus, amaryllis and poinsettias. I think that every home that decorates for Christmas should have at least one poinsettia, the No. 1-selling potted plant in the world.

A patient commented in the office not long ago that she had noticed she was two inches shorter than when she was in high school. Many readers may have noticed they are shorter too.

As we at MTSU winded down for the holiday, students were excitedly preparing for a long weekend home, as faculty and staff discussed time-honored recipes that were going to grace the family table.

After our weather gets off to a decent start for the beginning of the week, an unsettled pattern is shaping up beginning Dec. 6, with chances of rain every day through Dec. 10.

Looks like we have an average week of weather ahead of us with temperatures close to normal for this time of year. 

The holiday season is upon us, and as we make plans to gather with family and celebrate with meals and gifts, let us not forget those that find this time of year to be the most difficult.

After a very cold start to the week, I see a gradual warming trend in the days ahead and there are no more Arctic blasts for us through Nov. 20.
