Rev. Fred Johnson, of Smyrna, TN, shuffled off his mortal coil when he stepped into eternal life with Jesus on Thursday, October 3.
Originally from Bethel, CT, Fred joined the Air Force in 1953, serving 17 years during the Korean War and the Cuban Crisis, spending time in the Philippines, in Okinawa, and boots-on-the-ground in Vietnam.
Fred found Jesus in 1976; the thrill of his life was preaching the Word of God. With his wife, he founded several churches in Massachusetts and Ohio. His favorite lay job was driving for Enterprise Rent-a-Car — he loved the camaraderie and he loved being behind the wheel on long trips.
Fred loved God, he loved his wife, and he loved his children! He is survived by his wife, Paulette Packard Johnson, originally of Dennis, MA; by his sons, Doug of Orlando, FL, Gary of Belle Vista, AR, Adam of Smyrna and Jesse of Gallatin, TN; and his daughter, Victoria Sams of Murfreesboro, TN. He is also survived by four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his brother, Richard of Memphis, TX; his sister, Carol Holwerda of Colorado; and many nieces and nephews.
Burial will take place Friday, October 25, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, 7931 McCrory Ln, Nashville, TN 37221
