An early morning fire Tuesday at the Bridgestone Tire plant in La Vergne was quickly extinguished by the building’s sprinkler system.

Two employees in the building went to the plant nurse’s station for treatment. One employee was treated and released, and one received additional evaluation, according to Bridgestone.

The sprinkler system was activated as a material in the plant caught fire. The fire and water caused only minor damage to the building. Bridgestone officials said the fire was confined to a small portion of the plant’s mixing area and operations throughout the rest of the plant “are continuing as usual.”

“Our first priority is the safety of our plant employees. Employees at the La Vergne plant acted quickly and properly, using their provided training to safely handle the situation,” a Bridgestone spokesperson said in an emailed statement. “Plant management is now working to determine the cause of the fire.

A Rutherford County EMS ambulance was dispatched to the scene, though an EMS official did not say if anyone was taken to a hospital, citing privacy laws.
