West Jefferson Pike reopened early Monday afternoon after closing for several hours when a tractor trailer carrying nine Nissan vehicles flipped and scattered the cars, Rutherford County Fire Rescue and Rutherford County Sheriff's Office said.
RCFR reported on Facebook around 10:45 a.m. Monday that West Jefferson Pike near Hickory Grove Road had closed due to the accident. Public Information Officer Lisa Sloan said that Smyrna Police Department had closed the Interstate 840 access at one point, but she was not sure as of noon if that was still the case.
Rutherford County EMS treated the semi driver on the scene for non-life threatening injuries and transported him to a local hospital, Sloan said.
As of noon, first responders had yet to clean up spilled oil, remove the scattered cars and turn the trailer upright, Sloan said.
