A bank robbery Wednesday afternoon led to the Siegel schools being locked down as a precaution, but students were never in danger, authorities say.
The Murfreesboro Police Department said the First National Bank on Memorial Boulevard was robbed around 3:05 p.m. They captured the suspect a couple of hours later in a tree line behind Miller Coliseum. His identity was not immediately released.
The robber had given a teller a note demanding money, MPD said. He wore a black hat with swoosh logo, sunglasses, dark blue long-sleeve shirt and gray pants. He left the bank on foot.
The FBI helped in the search, the MPD said.
The Siegel schools were locked down as a precaution since they are nearby, said James Evans, Rutherford County Schools communications director. Police helped the schools conduct a dismissal of the schools.
