Murfreesboro Police Department detectives say they arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of a man on Thursday, one of two shootings that officers responded to that evening.
The suspect in the murder, Zolan Miles, 21, turned himself in at the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office shortly after the shooting, the MPD said. He was interviewed by MPD detectives and charged with second-degree murder.
The victim, Rodney Armstrong, 29, was shot twice in the back yard of his Maylon Drive home around 7:47 p.m., police said. Medics transported him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The MPD said Armstrong had a disagreement with Miles before being shot. There was a group of five others who witnessed the shooting and then took off running.
Miles was in custody at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center on a $450,000 bond, the MPD said. He is scheduled to appear in Rutherford County General Sessions Court on Oct. 5.
In a separate shooting Thursday, the MPD said they responded to a road rage incident around 7:42 p.m. in the 1500 block of Northeast Broad Street. One person was shot in the leg and transported to the hospital, they said. They were searching for a blue Dodge Ram 4-door with West Virginia license plate.
