Murfreesboro’s fire marshal placed two people under arrest in connection with a July 14 house fire at 208 Chamberlain Drive, Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department said in a press release.
Ashley Barner, 28, of Jetton Drive, was arrested July 24 and charged with arson, MFRD said. Her grandmother, Peggy O’Neal, 80, of Bradyville Pike, was arrested July 29 and charged with conspiracy to commit arson and insurance fraud.
According to lead investigator Clay Malone, Barner admitted to intentionally leaving a candle next to a doll clothed in yarn on a bedside table in a back bedroom of the home, MFRD said. When questioned, the woman allegedly implicated her grandmother’s involvement as well.
Both women are being held on $100,000 bond each at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center.
