Teen indicted on attempted murder of deputy




Attempted murder and robbery indictments were returned against a 16-year-old boy charged with attacking a Coffee County deputy in April. Dustin Meadows of Tullahoma was charged with attempted murder of Deputy Wade Bassett when the deputy transported him to the Rutherford County Juvenile Detention Center. Meadows allegedly struck Bassett with a flashlight and escaped custody when they arrived at the center, Murfreesboro Police Detective Doug Arrington reported. Bassett suffered critical injuries. Meadows was also indicted on charges of especially aggravated robbery of Bassett, two counts of aggravated assault and escape. In another case, Deonday A. Evans, 19, of 1969 Old Castle Drive, Lisa Marie Watson, 21, of B 95 Tremont and Edward Jamar Pope, 19, of 2709 Calais Court were charged with shooting victim Tremayne Johnson, Murfreesboro Police Detective Ed Gorham reported. The three were charged with attempted first-degree murder of Johnson, attempted robbery, conspiracy to rob him and burglarize his home, aggravated burglary and reckless endangerment. Evans and Pope were indicted on charges of aggravated assault and possession of a weapon in the commission of a felony. Wearing masks, Evans and Pope allegedly broke into Johnsons home and robbed him. Pope carried a .380-caliber semi-automatic handgun and Evans carried a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun. In another case, Garrett R. Ankney, 19, of 1325 Wenlon Drive and Beau D. Estes, 23, no address available, were charged with aggravated assault with a weapon and reckless endangerment with a weapon, Murfreesboro Police Detective Richard Presley reported. They were charged with shooting victim Jeremy Bess in the right leg, the detective reported. During an argument, Ankney allegedly gave Estes a shotgun to shoot Bess. In another set of indictments, youth minister Daniel J. Lowhorn, 30, of Cookeville was charged with two counts of solicitation of especially aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor, 27 counts of exploitation of a minor by electronic means, five counts of solicitation of a minor for aggravated statutory rape and solicitation of sexual exploitation of a minor by electronic means. Kent L. Kelch, 43, of 719 Fairview Ave. was charged with solicitation of a minor for aggravated statutory rape (10 counts) and exploitation of a minor by electronic means. Lowhorn and Kelch were indicted after they allegedly solicited a 15-year-old girl for sex online, sheriffs Detective Mickey McCullough reported. These were among 106 cases indicted by grand jurors during their February term. Defendants will receive copies of their indictments Tuesday on the fourth floor of the Judicial Building. Kristopher Michael Darnell, felonious possession of marijuana. Dean A. Davis, theft, vehicle lacking identification number. Aurelia Angel Diaz, alias Eddie Fransisco Rosa Rivera, forgery (two counts), criminal impersonation, theft of identity. Beau D. Estes, theft, possession of a weapon by a felon.
