Micayla Hickman, a graduating senior at Stewarts Creek High School has been elected as the state treasurer for Tennessee FFA, becoming the first Stewarts Creek student to hold a statewide FFA office.

Hickman was also named the 2020 Tennessee State Star in Agriscience for her work in her Supervised Agriculture Experience Program in which she has developed eight research projects over the last four years. She has studied a wide range of subjects including social science, animal science, and food product systems.

Hickman will receive $2,250 for this honor and will be attending the virtual State Star Tour, sponsored by the Tennessee FFA Foundation.

Hickman also received a $1,000 FFA scholarship sponsored by Domino’s.

Hickman plans to attend the University of Tennessee at Martin in the fall to study animal sciences, with the intention of becoming a veterinarian specializing in animal therapeutics.

Ella Hasty was recognized as the 2020 Middle Tennessee Star Greenhand. She was awarded for her work in her Beef Production SAE at Wrather Farms, where she works with Charolais cattle.

As a freshman, Ella has developed her skills in beef and forage production, vaccination schedules, and equipment maintenance. Ella will receive $250.

Jayce Hatcher was named the Small Animal Care State Proficiency winner for his work in his SAE. Jayce works at Creature Comfort Kennels, Premier Vet Care, and volunteered in the SCHS Small Animal Lab. Jayce has developed his project over the last five years and will move on to compete in the national contest in October.

Alex Shatto was also recognized as the Diversified Horticulture Middle Tennessee Proficiency winner for his work in lawn care, landscaping, and with the SCHS greenhouse. 

The highest degree at the state level is the Tennessee State FFA Degree. This year, five members of the Stewarts Creek FFA Chapter were awarded this honor for their commitment to their FFA chapter and the development of their SAE programs. These members are Macy Browning, Grace Hardee, Micayla Hickman, Taylor Newbern and Samantha Walter.
