Kathy Ferrell became the first Public Information Officer for the Town of Smyrna on Oct. 25.
The Public Information Officer position was created to serve as a liaison for the Town Manager and elected officials in communicating with the media and public regarding news, events and long-term strategies.
“Smyrna is a vibrant, growing community,” Town Manager Brian Hercules said. “Our personnel and residents need a voice dedicated to both proactive and reactive messaging. Kathy’s ability to build relationships and effectively communicate will be an asset to our town.”
Prior to joining the Town of Smyrna, Ferrell, a Middle Tennessee State University graduate, served as the executive director for the Heart of Tennessee Chapter of the American Red Cross. She was responsible for board development, public affairs, government relations and fundraising for 17 counties in Middle Tennessee.
