School board selects Estes as chairman

The Rutherford County Board of Education selected new officers at a meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 5.

Jim Estes was voted chairman and succeeds Jeff Jordan in that position. Cory Young was selected as vice chair.

The board announced that Rutherford County high schools have been awarded Gold Level recognition as Tennessee Safe Stars leagues. Safe Stars is a new effort to recognize Tennessee youth sports leagues with high standards of safety for athletes.

This summer, Safe Stars expanded its scope to recognize schools for their outstanding policies, and Rutherford County Schools are the first educational institutions to receive recognition from the program.

In other business, the board reported the final cost of the Rocky Fork Middle School project, from RG Anderson Co., is slightly more than $32.28 million.
