Human remains found about four months ago have been identified as a Shelbyville resident, police said.

A human skull was found in the southeastern portion of Rutherford County on Nov. 12, the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office said at the time. The skull was found at the same time as the search that was being conducted for Devin Bond’s remains, but was not related to that case, they said.

The skull was carried by a farm dog to its owners, who notified the sheriff’s office, the RCSO said. Detectives were uncertain exactly where the dog found the skull.

The medical examiner identified the remains as Jeremy Anderson of Shelbyville, said Det. Sgt. John Sweeney of the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office.

Anderson was in his mid-30s when he disappeared, Sweeney said. His wife reported him missing on May 26, 2018, but said he walked away from home on March 23 of that year. Neighbors last saw him walking along U.S. Highway 231.

Anderson had diabetes and was not carrying his medicine, Sweeney said. However, Sweeney referred questions about the cause of death to the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office.

The cause of death was undetermined, said Lisa Marchesoni, public information officer for the RCSO.
