RCS supervisor wins regional award

Longtime Rutherford County Schools educator Dr. Kay Martin has been named the Mid-Cumberland Region school supervisor of the year, according to an announcement from the Tennessee Department of Education.

Martin, a graduate of Oakland High School, is one of nine finalists for the statewide award. The winner will be announced this fall.

She has been Rutherford County’s Secondary Coordinator since 2017 and worked in education since 1999. 

“I am proud and honored to serve Rutherford County and to give back to the community that has been so good to me all my life,” Martin said in a news release from the district. “There are many people in our district deserving of this nomination.”

To qualify, candidates must demonstrate a record of implementing innovative programs and managing and motivating students and faculties. Additionally, the nominees must have a minimum of three years’ experience as an administrator and a minimum of five years’ experience in public schools.
