The Murfreesboro Police Department said it arrested the driver involved in a crash Saturday afternoon that resulted in the death of his adult son.
On Saturday at approximately 5 p.m., officers responded to a one-vehicle crash near 1002 E. Northfield Blvd, an MPD press release said. The crash involved a 2005 Honda Odyssey. The investigation revealed the vehicle was travelling westbound on East Northfield and struck the curb multiple times before leaving the roadway and striking a fire hydrant, causing it to roll onto its side. The crash resulted in both occupants being trapped.
Both occupants were freed by Murfreesboro Fire Rescue personnel. The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger has been identified as Bryan Keith Downing Jr., 33, of Murfreesboro, police said.
The driver was identified as Bryan Keith Downing, 59, of Murfreesboro, the victim’s father, police said. He was treated by Rutherford County Emergency Services and transported to Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital. Upon release he was taken into custody and charged with vehicular homicide, driving under the influence (third offense) and violation of the open container law. He is being held at the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Department under a $264,000 bond.
