The Murfreesboro Planning Commission voted Wednesday to give a favorable recommendation to rezone Oakland Court.
The Murfreesboro City Council will consider the rezoning at a later date.
The public housing community next to Oaklands Mansion will be redeveloped in two phases and go from 76 residential units to 150 units in duplexes and triplexes using traditional architectural home styles. Current residents will relocate during construction and then will have the opportunity to move back around the end of 2021, said Margaret Butler, principal and vice president of architect McCarty Holsaple McCarty.
Mercury Court residents will move into the second phase units.
Commission and council member Eddie Smotherman said, “I think it’s a beautiful project.”
