A Murfreesboro man is dead and another one injured following a single-vehicle crash on Warrior Drive Saturday morning, police said.
The preliminary investigation revealed the driver of a 2012 Nissan Altima, Dustan Michael Volkman, 27, may have been speeding and failed to negotiate a curve on Warrior Drive near Riverdale High School, the Murfreesboro Police Department said. His vehicle left the roadway, went into a ditch, struck a concrete culvert, overturned and landed upside down around 1 a.m.
His passenger, Chad Ghee, 35, was trapped inside the vehicle, the MPD said. Members of Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department used extrication equipment to remove him from the vehicle. Ghee was later pronounced dead at Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital.
Volkman was taken by personnel with Rutherford County Emergency Rescue Services to Saint Thomas and treated for a broken leg and other injuries, police said.
No charges have been filed currently, the MPD said. Investigators are awaiting the results of a blood-alcohol analysis.
The crash remains under investigation by the Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT).
