Middle Tennessee Electric Membership Corp. has teamed with Tesla to test a new program to save co-op members money using an energy management process.
Middle Tennessee Electric installed the latest Tesla Powerpack at one of its substations in Murfreesboro. The Tesla Powerpack is a battery energy storage system.
In this pilot program, the batteries will be used to reduce MTEMC’s energy demand charges from the Tennessee Valley Authority and improve demand response time to members when additional energy is needed.
TVA charges utilities more money during peak demand hours, so MTEMC hopes that by storing some electricity during low-demand times, it can potentially save tens of thousands of dollars.
