I love it when my calendar is loaded up with good upcoming sales, and there are three September goodies that I recommend putting on your calendars, too.

Goodwill Brand Name Blowout

Goodwill is having a “Brand Name Blowout” at its Rivergate-area store Sept. 18-19, featuring more than 1,000 pieces of high-end clothing, shoes, handbags and accessories. Some pieces are “preloved,” but others are new with tags

You will see brands like Michael Kors, Kate Spade, Cole Haan and others, all of which Goodwill officials say have been authenticated, at super low prices — as in $5, $10 $15 and $20 per item.

The “blowout” sale is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in a special section of the Rivergate superstore at 2101 Gallatin Pike N.

“We held our first-ever ‘Brand Name Blowout’ last year, and it was so popular with shoppers we decided to bring it back,” said Leisa Wamsley, vice president of donated goods for Goodwill of Middle Tennessee.

She noted that brand names can often be found in the 29 area Goodwill stores and online at onlinegoodwill.com. “But during this event, we curate many of the most desirable brands and offer them in a single location.”

She said merchandise will be replenished during the two-day sale and that any unsold items will remain on the sales floor after the weekend “blowout.”

Goodwill spokesperson Chris Fletcher described the sale as “fun with plenty of excited shoppers.” He said at the first brand-name sale, “shoppers simply walked up to four or five tables filled with merchandise in a designated area, and those tables were replenished as needed.”

He said masks will be required in the “blowout” shopping area and a limited number of shoppers will be allowed in at a time.

Dress for Success Fall Inventory Sale

Also on Saturday is a YWCA Dress for Success Nashville “Fall Inventory Sale” from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Operation Stand Down Tennessee, at 1125 12th Ave. S., with 15 racks of clothing, plus shoes, jewelry and accessories up for sale.

Much of the clothing and accessory merchandise, which is excess inventory from the Dress for Success boutique, will be priced from $2 to $10.

There will be some designer racks, too, with most of those items $50 or less, according to sale organizer Susie Tucker, merchandising and inventory specialist for the Nashville YWCA’s Dress for Success program.

Tucker said most of the inventory in the sale consists of items that “don’t fit the profile” of what the program needs for “suiting” its clients for interviewing or their jobs. “We do receive items that we can’t use, like a Kate Spade cocktail dress,” she said.

She added that being able to sell those items supports the program in a number of ways, including paying for Uber and Lyft transportation for clients to the YWCA location for the suiting.

The YWCA program, which is part of the worldwide Dress for Success organization, works with Nashville-area women who are joining or rejoining the workforce. Not only does Dress for Success provide them suitable clothing for interviews or jobs (suits, jackets, shoes, pants, skirts, blouses, handbags, coats), it also offers job support with workshops on confidence building, job interviewing and resume tips.

The YWCA accepts donated women’s clothing, shoes and accessories year-round for its clients who are referred by staff from other organizations like Project Return, UpRise Nashville and the Weaver Domestic Violence Center. In recent years, the program has served 100 to 150 women per year.

Donations can be dropped off by appointment on the first and third Tuesdays at the 1608 Woodmont Blvd. YWCA headquarters. Most-wanted items include larger-size (18 and up) jackets and blazers, pantsuits, white blouses, dresses, scrubs, handbags, totes, jewelry, professional shoes and tennis shoes.

The excess inventory sale is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in a conference room at Operation Stand Down Tennessee, at 1125 12th Ave. S. All proceeds benefit Dress for Success Nashville. Masks will be required, and temperatures will be taken at the door.

Ladies of Charity consignment sale

And starting next week is the fall/winter Ladies of Charity consignment sale of men’s and women’s clothing, shoes and accessories. The sale, which includes inventory from more than 350 consignors and donors, runs from Sept. 24 to Nov. 6.

The Ladies of Charity organization, including about 60 active sale volunteers, is excited to be “back in business” after having to cancel its semiannual sales the last three seasons due to COVID-19.

Opening weekend is 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, and as usual there will likely be customers lined up.

“There is usually a line formed on opening day, but most regulars know to come a bit later in the day, as we are open until 7 p.m.,” said Claudia Kornmeyer, one of the members of the Nashville Ladies of Charity, which has served Nashville’s needy for more than 110 years.

“We have so many faithful customers who have been coming to shop with us year after year after year,” she said. “It is amazing to hear their stories of shopping as little girls or boys with their grandmothers and mothers. We are so grateful. Our current goal is to bring awareness to the many transplants who have moved to our fair city to let them know about us.”

Kornmeyer said that until COVID-19, the traditional consignment sales had taken place every fall and spring since the 1950s, with proceeds going to the Welfare Office to help needy Middle Tennesseans.

The Ladies of Charity shop is at 2216 State St.
