Two Boots Pizza, part of a nationwide chain with six other restaurants, officially opened its Smyrna location at the end of last month, serving New York-style pizza with a Cajun flare.

The menu also offers a sizable vegan menu. There is a midtown Nashville location that opened in 2014.

McKenzie Jordan, the general manager of the Nashville location, said Smyrna is a good fit for Two Boots.

“We’ve always loved it here (in Smyrna),” Jordan said. “There’s been a couple of our investors that have been out here that have always been trying to get us to come out to the suburbs. When we looked for places that are booming, with lots of business, Smyrna was always at the top of our list, like the whole Smyrna-Murfreesboro area.

“When this Pie Five (went out of business), it was kind of set up for us, though not totally. We had to do a few different things, but the nice part of it was it was kind of already set up to be a pizza restaurant.  So, the two ideas of us wanting to be in the suburbs and then the spot being available to use right away pretty much just was pretty good, pretty hard to pass up.”

Jordan said that Two Boots started in New York in the 1980s. One “boot” represents Italy and the owner’s family heritage and the other “boot” represents Louisiana for his love of New Orleans and Cajun dishes.

Some menu favorites include the Bayou Beast (Andouille sausage, shrimp, crawfish, and jalapeños on top), The Dude (Cajun cheeseburger pizza), vegan mozzarella and pepperoni pizza, meatballs made in-house. Delivery service is expected to begin soon.

Jordan said that each Two Boots location has its signature pizza. The one in Nashville has The Kitty (Hattie B’s hot chicken and jalapeños on a white pie).

“We are going to try to make one here called The Omni Hut, named after the old Omni Hut here,” Jordan said. “It’s going to have teriyaki chicken and bacon on it, and that will only be available here.”

Smyrna resident Todd Spearman is already a repeat customer.

“The different flavors and the freshness of the pizza — it’s outstanding,” he said. “It has some of the best crust for their style of pizza.  Every time we’ve been in, the guys have been super nice to us.  We’re just glad they came to Smyrna because it’s given us a great option with a different style of pizza.”
