The La Vergne Board of Mayor & Aldermen meeting on Dec. 6 was short on business and long on ceremony as recently re-elected Mayor Jason Cole was sworn in for his second four-year term, and newly elected aldermen Carol Haas and Kara Hobbs were sworn in for the first time.

The Board filled many of the vacancies on some city commissions and boards. Haas had been active on some city boards, and her new alderman status left vacancies there.

Haas was voted onto the La Vergne Planning Commission and the Local Emergency Planning Committee in the spot reserved for an alderman.

Cole removed Diane Sanders and John Rutledge from the planning commission. Rutledge was one of Cole’s two opponents candidates in the Nov. 8 election. Graeme Coates and Mark Molnar were appointed to the planning commission.

Hobbs praised Sanders and Rutledge for their work on the planning commission and for their other work in the community.

After the meeting, Cole responded to a question about the planning commission appointments by saying, “Both appointees to the Planning Commission bring a wealth of experience, more so than any other board member. Mr. Coates has over two decades of experience, and Mr. Molnar comes with prior planning commission and prior zoning experience, on top of being part of a large public/private partnership attracting new commercial businesses while he was a part of the City Council of Warrenville, Illinois.”

Hobbs was appointed to the Beautification and Arts Advisory Committee in the spot reserved for an alderman. Anne Marie Carter filled the other vacancy. Hobbs also was appointed as the board representative on the Greenway Advisory Committee. No vote was required as it is a mayoral appointment.

Cole was appointed to the Economic Development Advisory Committee and the Library Board in the spot reserved for someone from the La Vergne Board of Mayor & Aldermen.

Tabitha Howard was appointed to the seat on the Senior Citizens Advisory Committee that became open when Haas was elected alderman.

Chuck Isbell was reappointed to the La Vergne Housing Authority. Rick Autery was appointed to the Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee.
