Kroger reports that a manager at the Northfield Boulevard store in Murfreesboro died recently after being diagnosed with COVID-19.
The company did not name the employee, nor the date of death.
“We were deeply saddened by the passing of one of our Kroger family members who worked at the Northfield Blvd stores in Murfreesboro, TN,” spokeswoman Melissa Eads said in an email. “We are mourning along with the family during this extraordinarily difficult time. This associate was previously diagnosed with COVID-19. We have made mental health and grief counselors available to support our associates.”
The manager had not worked in about a month, Eads said.
In March, the grocery corporation began measures to protect workers and customers, such as doing increased sanitation and installing acrylic sheet barriers at cash registers and pharmacies. Kroger also has used floor decals and other signs to promote social distancing.
On May 4, Kroger announced it would provide free COVID-19 testing for frontline associates, based on symptoms and medical need.
