The Kiwanis Club of Murfreesboro inducted its 2019-2020 officers and recognized its 2019 Kiwanian of the Year at a recent meeting.
The club’s longest running member, Ebby Miller, was recognized as Kiwanian of the Year for his support to the club. Miller will have served the club for 72 years in January 2020. Kiwanian of the Year is selected by the club’s entire membership.
“It’s an extraordinary honor to present this award to such a committed member of our club and community,” long-time member and award’s committee chair Steve Fuchcar said. “Murfreesboro has been blessed in so many ways from the service and leadership that Ebby has given throughout his entire life.”
Kim Eischeid of Claiborne & Taylor Insurance was sworn in as president. Becky Lanham with Volunteer Rutherford will serve as president-elect. Rita Shacklett with the Rutherford County Library System will serve as the club’s secretary. Steve Lanham with Dance Murfreesboro and Steve Fuchcar of Hall, Davidson & Associates will continue as club treasurers. Larry Richardson, retired, joined the board of directors.
“I’m looking forward to serving beside a great group of community leaders,” Eischeid said. “I can’t wait to get started and see how our club can help to make Murfreesboro an even better place to live.”
The club’s largest projects include the operation of the girls softball league at McKnight Park. The club also supports other local non-profit organizations such as Candle Wishes Foundation, Good Shepherd Children’s Home, Child Advocacy Center, A Soldier’s Child Foundation and the Holloway High School day care program.
Kiwanis meets every Wednesday at 11:45 a.m. at 219 Mixed Cuisine, located at 219 NW Broad St. in the old Gondolier location. The club is open for new members.
