Rutherford County Attorney Josh A. McCreary is resigning his position to take a job as general counsel at National Healthcare Corp.

McCreary announced his resignation last week in a letter to County Mayor Bill Ketron and the County Commission. The resignation will be effective April 1.

The attorney also is leaving his firm, Hudson, Reed & McCreary PLLC.

McCreary tells the county that, according to his contract, Nick Christiansen with his former office will assume the role of county attorney on a “temporary or longer basis.” The firm will handle already pending legal claims through June 2022.

“I am proud of the work we have done during my tenure with Rutherford County,” McCreary wrote.

A Jan. 2 Murfreesboro Post story said the Rutherford County Commission in December renewed McCreary’s contract until 2020. The Rutherford Neighborhood Alliance has urged commissioners to consider establishing in-house legal services.
