The owners of a café dedicated to serving as a match-making service for rescue cats and would-be adopters are scrambling to find a new storefront after learning their lease was not renewed.
Catfeine-Murfreesboro Cat Café opened in March 2019 with the goal of serving beverages and snacks to people who wanted to hang out in a lounge and pet a cat, or two, or three, and hopefully consider adopting one.
The café has facilitated the adoption of 255 cats in its short history, said owner Taura Byrd. The business works with area rescue groups.
Catfeine must be out of its original location at 1602 W. Northfield Blvd. by Dec. 15, Byrd said. She and her husband, Curtis, are negotiating with a landlord at a possible new spot on Cason Lane, but a deal had not been reached as of press time. Dec. 6 is anticipated to be their final day of business in the current spot.
The potential new location has a higher traffic count, so would be great if it works out, she said.
Catfeine started a GoFundMe page with a goal of $10,000 to solicit donations to help it with the move, particularly flooring. Byrd said she is also seeking a Small Business Administration loan.
Catfeine has 15 cats to move once a new location is found.
