The Tennessee Court Appointed Special Advocates Association recently honored three state leaders for their work for the organization and on behalf of children at its annual meeting in Nashville.
The three recipients are:
• Legacy Award: Lt. Gov. Randy McNally;
• Champion for Children: Jim Henry, former Deputy Governor/Chief of Staff for Gov. Bill Haslam
• Light of Hope Award: Mackenzie Johnston, former foster youth
Johnston is a sophomore in college and has chosen to remain in foster care so she has the support she knows that she needs.
CASA of Rutherford County is serving 232 abused and neglected Department of Children's Services foster children. The program has 46 volunteers but always needs more, Executive Director Kassie M. Davis said.
