Tamera Blair, a 1987 Riverdale High School graduate who returned to the school more than 20 years later as a library media specialist, has returned again, this time as the principal, Director of Schools Bill Spurlock announced.
Blair has served as the principal at Lascassas Elementary for the past five years. She previously served as an assistant principal at the school.
“It’s dear to my heart, and I’m very excited and extremely proud to return,” Blair said. “I look forward to working with the faculty and staff so we can empower our students.
“It’s home. Obviously, being an alumna and living in that zone, those are my neighbors.”
She has twice been named a school-level teacher of the year, including Christiana Elementary School in 1999 as a sixth-grade teacher and again in 2008 as a librarian at Stewarts Creek Middle School.
Her father, Donald Jernigan, is a former principal of Smyrna Middle and a former member of the Rutherford County Board of Education.
Chris Lafferty has been named the principal of Christiana Elementary School.
He has worked the past nine years as an assistant principal at Barfield Elementary School.
“He understands that every child has the ability to learn and that some need more support than others,” Director of Schools Bill Spurlock said. “His background and experience make him the ideal candidate to lead Christiana Elementary School and build a rapport with the community, parents and students.”
Lafferty has been an educator for 19 years. He is an accomplished pianist and music teacher.
