Participating artist profile: Tina Whitfield (retired schoolteacher): “I was drawn into art when I joined my parents in a week-long Alabama Watercolor Society workshop in 2006. When the Attic School opened here in January of 2007, I jumped at the opportunity for instruction in watercolor followed by drawing, portrait workshops, and oil painting. Currently I work primarily in oil, studying with Mary Miller Veazie and Susan Truex. Drawing and painting give me the opportunity to see life with new eyes and to express in paint the beauty I see. I paint what moves me; portraiture is my current focus as I see beauty and the uniqueness of God’s creation in every face. Landscape challenges me in a similar way. The deep emotional response that a powerful landscape can evoke inspires me to express on canvas what awes me in nature. I credit my teachers and fellow students with my continuing growth and development as an artist; in addition, my work is influenced from pastel instruction with Pat Thompson at Southgate Studio, Franklin, and from participation in workshops with Igor Babailov, Janet Rogers, Conor O’Brien, Helen Vaughn, Brett Weaver, Paula Ford, Wayne Spradley and Dan Hosse.” Participating artist Profile: Patty Burks: “I became interested in painting while living in Mississippi, where I was introduced to watercolor, pastels, and oils. I’ve taken various workshops and have studied with Gayle Levee and Mary “Missy” Miller Veazie. I’ve painted landscapes and cityscapes “en plein air” throughout the southeast, most recently in Charleston, South Carolina. I also enjoy still life and figurative painting. I credit Missy as being instrumental in my development and passion as a figurative artist. I particularly enjoy taking someone’s favorite photograph and transforming it into a treasured work of art.” Participating Artist/Instructor Profile: Mary “Missy” Miller Veazie: I’ve lived and painted throughout the United States, but I especially love being home in Tennessee. I enjoy switching between painting disciplines. A well rounded painter needs to be proficient in portraiture, landscape and still life. I am a member of the National Portrait Society, Oil Painters of America, and the Chestnut Group of Tennessee. I’ve won awards and have participated in many group and solo shows. My work can be viewed at the Shelby Lee Gallery in Charleston, SC, Art Work in the Heart of Leipers Fork in Leipers Fork, TN, Emory’s Fine Art in Murfreesboro, TN, and on my website mmveazie.com. In addition to painting and raising a family, I teach art classes at the Attic School of Art in Murfreesboro, with an emphasis on design, technique, and color. I find it extremely rewarding to be able to paint and to share my knowledge and love of painting with others. I am truly blessed to have a profession that gives me great joy.” 615-893-1005 home/615-631-4161 cell/mmveazie@yahoo.com
