Incumbent Shane McFarland defeated Independent candidates Nathan Bennett and Tony Lehew to remain Murfreesboro’s mayor in Thursday’s election.

McFarland got 8,446 votes, while Lehew got 2,103 and Bennett got 2,100.

“I’m just looking forward to continuing to work with the council and work to make Murfreesboro the best city it can be,” McFarland said. “It’s been one of the biggest blessings of my life to be able to serve the citizens.”

McFarland was elected the youngest mayor in the history of the city in 2014. It will be his third term as mayor. He also served two terms on the city council.

Incumbent Madelyn Scales Harris is also returning to her seat on the Murfreesboro City Council with 6,408 votes.

“I’m looking forward to serving the people even better than I have served before,” she said. “I’m just so thankful to God that He will allow me to take this post one more time.”

Scales Harris was first elected to the city council in 2010.
