Martha Jones is shown with members of her family at her 108th birthday party on Oct. 10.

Martha Etta Dudney Jones’ family filled her room at NHC Murfreesboro to celebrate her 108th birthday on Oct. 10.

Kathy Bennett, the Century Club of Rutherford County liaison, said that Jones is the oldest known person in Murfreesboro and Rutherford County.

Councilman Kirt Wade presented a City of Murfreesboro key to Jones.

Jones was born in Sumner County and lived in White House until she was 14 years old. She married J. D. Jones in 1928 before moving to Huntsville, Ala. They were married for 61 years and raised four children.

Jones devoted her time to her family and church. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, and cooking for the needy through her involvement at the West Huntsville and Central Church of Christ. She also learned to drive at age 65, enrolling in driver’s lessons.

Jones eventually moved back to Tennessee, residing on Hillsboro Road until 2006 and then moved in with her daughter Faye for several years. She then moved to Murfreesboro where her daughter Sonya and her son-in-law lived.

Jones has three daughters, one son who died, nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.
