School Supply and Backpack Drive sponsored by the La Vergne police and fire departments will be held through Sept. 1. All donations can be dropped off at the La Vergne Police Department (5093 Murfreesboro Rd.), Fire Administration (283 Old Nashville Highway), Fire Station 1 (169 Stones River Rd.) Fire Station 2 (609 Waldron Rd.) or Fire Station 3 (301 Bill Stewart Blvd.). The departments are accepting new backpacks, pencils, pens, permanent markers, highlighters, glue sticks, tissues and paper towels, crayons, colored pencils, rulers, hand sanitizer, Lysol wipes, pocket folders, notebooks and paper. Tennessee State Parks’ Bicycle Ride Across Tennessee will be held Sept. 1-30 and will be a virtual event this year. Riders can log their miles on lovetoride.net as part of the Bicycle Ride Across Tennessee Cycling Club. The goal is for participants to ride 688 miles, the distance from Bristol to Memphis. Participants can log their miles any way they choose, including road cycling, indoor cycling, gravel or mountain biking. The cost to participate is $150. All participants will receive access to trusted routes at multiple Tennessee State Parks and a 2020 BRAT jersey and T-shirt. Special Kids Therapy and Nursing Center will host its annual banquet as a virtual event on Thursday, Sept. 3 at 6 p.m. Dinner from Chick-fil-A will be available for pickup and the program can be seen online. The 12th Annual Hammer Down for Habitat Motorcycle Poker Run will be held Saturday, Sept. 19. Motorcycle riders will ride more than 100 miles from Habitat for Humanity in Murfreesboro. The event raises funds to build affordable housing for Rutherford County families in need. Registration is at 8 a.m., riders start out at 8:30 a.m. Cost is $25 per rider and $15 per passenger. The 2020 TSSAA Hall of Fame luncheon and induction ceremony has been rescheduled for Saturday, Nov. 21. The event will be held at the Embassy Suites in Murfreesboro. Tickets will be made available on the TSSAA.org website.

Tennessee State Parks are providing a 10 percent discount for Tennessee residents for overnight accommodations through a new Tennessee Resident Discount Program, applying to most campsites, cabins and lodge rooms across the state. Reservations are available online at reserve.tnstateparks.com. Select “Tennessee Resident Discount” during payment. Reservations are also available in-person or by phone by calling the specific park.
