Sixteenth Annual Apples for Sight sponsored by the Murfreesboro Lions Club will be held Oct. 1-Nov. 7.   The Club is taking $100 donations for a big box (approximately 28-30 pounds) of a new crop of Gala apples. The proceeds support Tennessee Lions Eye Center at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital and for an MTSU scholarship for a blind student. Call (615) 896-1007 or (740) 405-3621 to order. Tennessee State Parks’ Bicycle Ride Across Tennessee will be held through Sept. 30 and will be a virtual event this year. Riders can log their miles on lovetoride.net as part of the Bicycle Ride Across Tennessee Cycling Club. The goal is for participants to ride 688 miles, the distance from Bristol to Memphis. Participants can log their miles any way they choose, including road cycling, indoor cycling, gravel or mountain biking. The cost to participate is $150. All participants will receive access to trusted routes at multiple Tennessee State Parks and a 2020 BRAT jersey and T-shirt. Live MTSU Webinar “Being Mayor During COVID-19” will be presented by Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs, also known as WWE champion wrestler Kane, from 4:30-6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15. The free Zoom webinar is hosted by the Political Economy Research Institute at Middle Tennessee State University. Attendees must register online to participate. Email peri@mtsu.edu for information.

Rutherford County Isaiah 117 House Golf Tournament will be held Friday, Oct. 16 at 11:30 a.m. at Indian Hills Golf Club, 405 Calumet Trace in Murfreesboro. Lunch is at noon and a shotgun start will be held at 1 p.m. Golfers can pre-register at www.isaiah117house.com/golf. Make sure that the Rutherford County course is selected as the golf tournament is happening all across Tennessee. Isaiah 117 House provides clean clothes, blankets and toys for children who are removed from their home and awaiting placement in foster care.

The Wesley Foundation of Middle Tennessee Golf Tournament will be held Saturday, Oct. 17 at Old Fort Golf Course in Murfreesboro. The event starts with lunch at noon followed by golf at 1 p.m. Registration is $60 per person and includes lunch. Team registration is $240 for a four-person team. The Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church Food Pantry, located at 1601 N. Tennessee Blvd. in Murfreesboro, is open to the public every Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. until noon.  Due to COVID-19, the food pantry is currently setting up outside on those days.
